EXPERIENCES / KAKADU
Kakadu Day Walks
Overview
This is a special trip for people who want to see some of the best that Kakadu has to offer without having to carry a full backpack.
Highlights include
- A number of tours with some of Kakadu's aboriginal traditional owners.
- The Guluyambi and Yellow Waters cruises.
- All three of Kakadu's most accessible art sites.
- A swim below the waterfall in a beautiful plunge pool.
- Comfortable accommodation every night.
It overlaps the Kakadu Short Overnight Walks trip, 31 August - 7 September.
We may or may not be able to run them both. Whichever gets four bookings first will be a definite departure.
We created this tour in 2021 for a group who wanted to see some of the best that Kakadu has to offer without having to carry an overnight backpack. Covid put an end to that, but some were still keen, so we did it in 2022. That worked so well that we’ve made it a regular part of our program.
On day 1
we visit Fogg Dam, do the Pudukul Aboriginal cultural tour, visit the Mamukala wetlands and finish with a night at the Aboriginal owned Anbinik Resort in Jabiru.
Day 2
includes the Guluyambi cruise on thee East Alligator River, a short walk or two near Ubirr, a visit to Injalak Arts, and a visit to the Ubirr art sites near sunset.
Day 3
includes the Nanguluwurr and Burrunkuy (Norurlangie) art sites, the Anbangbang Billabong walk and a sunset view from the Nawurlandja lookout.
We visit the air-conditioned Warradjan Cultural Centre during the hottest part of the afternoon.
Now that we've had time to acclimatise, we begin day 4
with a walk to Kubara Pools, where a spring feeds into a series of small pools hidden in a patch of monsoon forest.
We have lunch at Cooinda and check into our accommodation or campsite, your choice.
We spend the afternoon and evening on the Animal Tracks tour. This will give you the best possible insight into the local Aboriginal culture.
Dinner will be bush tucker.
Day 5
begins with the 6:45 AM Yellow Waters cruise followed by a buffet breakfast.
After breakfast, we drive to Maguk and do a relatively short walk to the plunge pool where we enjoy a swim below the best flowing waterfall in Kakadu which is accessible to the general public at this time of year.
We then drive back to Darwin.
